With the original Black Sabbath line up having reunited several times and technically still in place, Tony Iommi (owner of the Black Sabbath name), decided that this line up would tour under the moniker "Heaven & Hell", the name of the first Black Sabbath album to feature Ronnie James Dio on vocals (although, ironically, Vinny Appice did not appear on that album). The tour (and resulting live album) were such a success that the group announced that they decided to continue working together, with all new material coming from this group to be released under the "Heaven & Hell" name.
