Entirely devoted to English music for string orchestra, it includes very famous tunes such as Vaughan Williams’s Fantasy on Greensleeves or (yet another) recording of Elgar’s Introduction and Allegro, the work Barbirolli recorded the most throughout his career. For this piece, he is partnered by the Allegri String Quartet, the oldest British chamber ensemble still in activity.
