Playing with a steely yet pliable group feeling that is becoming readily identifiable, Davies’s own stature as both instrumentalist and composer continues to strengthen, and pieces such as the ballad ‘Hireth’ and ‘Ronas Voe’ that finds the Davies’s tenor playing pushing into freer territory provide compelling listening.
